John Swan - Vice President National Sales & Industry Relations
John came to Peter Mielzynski Agencies from England bringing innovative insight into the supermarket, hotel and beverage business gained from management positions with supermarket group Tesco plc, Forte Group plc (now Rocco Forte Hotels) and direct marketing vintners Ferdinand Pieroth GmbH.
After relocating to Canada in 1984, John became president of Hillebrand Estates Winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. In tandem with the Niagara peninsula's other regional growers and vintners, he spearheaded efforts to bring Canadian wine and wineries up to international standards and to implement forward-looking marketing strategies for alcoholic beverages in Ontario and throughout Canada. The opening of wineries' own retail stores pioneered a new era in sales, branding and advertising of Canadian wines. In 1988 Hillebrand Estates Winery was awarded the Canadian government's Business Award for Excellence in Marketing.
John joined Peter Mielzynski Agencies in 1993 and has used his skills to strengthen and promote PMA brands as well as negotiate with the government, trade associations and the global alcoholic beverage industry. From 1999 until 2002, John was President of the provincial alcoholic beverages importing umbrella organisation, Ontario Imported Wine-Spirit-Beer-Association (OIWSBA). He is still active as one of their Directors and serves on a strategic planning committee. He also serves as Chairman of the Association of Canadian Distillers, Spirits Canada.
Today, John is an integral player in the Peter Mielzynski Agencies management line-up responsible for positioning the company and its brands advantageously and setting the pace for industry excellence and integrity.
