In 1979 our Chairman, Peter G. Mielzynski, left his position as President of McGuiness Distillers to start his own independent company which in a few short years was to become one of Canada's foremost Purveyors of Wines, Spirits and Beer.

With his long time friend and business associate, George Lubienski, Peter G. Mielzynski opened a small office in Windemere Court in West Toronto and hung up his first corporate sign: Peter Mielzynski Agencies Ltd., featuring his family's centuries-old coat of arms. Today that coat of arms still features prominently as part of our Company's logo and Peter G. Mielzynski is still actively involved with the company as Chairman.

From that small Windermere Court office, our Company has grown to become an industry leader with offices from coast to coast and representatives in virtually every major Canadian community.

When he started the Company, our Chairman already had 25 years of experience in the beverage alcohol industry and understood its sometimes volatile state with brands changing ownership without warning. While at McGuiness Distillers, he became particularly interested in importing international brands.

Selection across Canada at the time was minimal. But in a short time he made brands like Blue Nun, Jack Daniels and Schroder and Schyler household names and immediately saw the potential of expanding his imported portfolio of brands to Canadians. Once he started his own company Mr. Mielzynski traveled to all the European wine and spirit capitals with invitations to brand owners to maximize their sales in Canada by building their brand images.

With just a few new brands the Company grew quickly to a nationwide network in Canada. Peter Mielzynski Agencies, the new industry upstart, was suddenly attracting the interest of major international wine and spirits producers.

Peter G. Mielzynski-Zychlinski was a co-founder of the award-winning Hillebrand Estates Winery. He has been involved in the wine industry for over 45 years and has played a leadership role in the developing the growth of interest in Canadian Wines.
